Cabrières d'Avignon is a charming small village situated at the foot of the Monts de Vaucluse facing the Luberon, between the towns of Gordes and L'Isle sur la Sorgue. The village has managed to maintain an authentic charm with restored, typically Provencal dry-stone houses lining the streets. There is also a medieval chateau built by the viscount of Cavaillon in the 11^th and 12^th centuries which is now a national heritage site. A 5-hectare forest of majestic cedars planted to the north of the village in 1860 is the perfect setting for a hike or a picnic. You can also take a walk along the 'Mur de la peste', a wall built to protect the inhabitants from the Great Plague of Marseille in 1720, or visit the quaint Lavender Museum in the neighbouring hamlet of Coustellet.
