Maussane-les-Alpilles is a picturesque village situated in the southern foothills of the Alpilles mountains in the heart of Provence, next door to the popular tourist site of Les Baux-de-Provence and only 8 km from the lively market town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Maussane is famous for its olive production and in the 19^th century was home to several windmills used to produce olive oil. Today two ancient oil mills still stand and are used to make olive oil of the highest quality with an Appellation d'Origine Protégée - Protected Designation of Origin. You can find olive oil and other local products at the Thursday morning market. Maussane is easily accessible from all directions and only 16 km north-east of Arles, 35 km south of Avignon and about 70 km north-west of Aix-en-Provence.
